camp. >> felt very proud since she made it through the boo boot camp. >> in fact nearly the entire family went to visit her at the boot camp graduation. but it has been overshadowed by shock. >> you don't believe to believe it. >> last thursday night at the u.s. marine base in virginia sara castro mata and corporal jacob wooly were shot to death by sergio lopez before he killed himself. early friday morning marine officers personally notified share raw's -- sara's mother. it is news she is still trying to deal with. she says her daughter is gone and they are never going to see her again. the castro mata family spent an hour with me sharing pictures of the 19-year-old. sara was a huge lakers fan and wanted to meet kobe bryant some day. and not so long ago she was glamorous redressed for prom this brentwood.

>> she is smiling in these pictures. >> everybody can tell you her smile, she always put a smile on her face. >> her mom says everyone always said sara was happy because she always had a smile on her face. they shared these pictures because this is how they want sara to be remembered. >> i asked sara's big sister and mother why she joined the marines? they said it is because sara believed it is the toughest branch of the military and she was a tough girl. ama, back to you. >> sergio, thank you so much. the second marine killed was jacob wooly from mississippi. the 23-year-old was a field radio operator in the marines. his friends in mississippi say he was close to his mother and before joining the marines considered becoming a preacher. military officials say he killed them last thursday at

the marine base in virginia. lopez then turned the gun on himself. the bodies were found in a barics found by officer candidates. they are still trying to find out the reason behind the shooting. a bay area soldier highly decorated for his service died this week after being injured in afghanistan. sergeant first class james floyd grisom of u.s. special forces died at a medical center in germany. he was injured in a shootout earlier this week in afghanistan just days before he was scheduled to return home. the 31-year-old was from hayward. we talked to a neighbor today who has known the family for four decades. >> he was a great kid. he liked bugs and snakes, and he was a terrific kid. we just broke down crying. they were just like family to us. >> grisom graduated from mat eden -- mount eden high school. he received the bronze star

medal. he leaves his wife and parents and sister. the search called off for a young man missing after a day on the beach with friend. for hours crews searched by sea and air as roosevelt beach and half moon bay. lilian kim was out there all day and she is live near the scene. lilian? >> the search crews focused their efforts about six miles south of here. a lot of people and a lot of resources were devoted to the search which was called off when the sun went down. crews searched from the air, from the dwrownd and in the -- from the ground and in the water. he called for help. he and his friend, javier lopez, got out of work 30 minutes early. they went to roosevelt beach where the two played soccer. then the unexpected happened when lopez went into the water. >> you go in the beach and when they start looking for him. >> emergency crews say the

water was relatively calm, but there was swift currents that could have played a role. >> they dropped a data boui in to see which way the curve conditions were going and which way she would be going and they are doing a pattern from there. >> crews from the coast guard and san mateo county coast guard and cal fire and the state department of parks and recreation all went looking for lopez. but afterrarily five hours they called -- after nearly five hours they called off the search. this is is from the staff. the owner is praying a miracle. lopez was like a son to her. >> i hope he go somewhere and can come back. i wish. i hope. praise the god to help him to be back. >> the coast guard says there

1200 people packed the santa rosa bible search for the memorial service for marcus johnson. the crowd over flowed to other areas of the church. gina johnson had the strength to say goodbye to her boy who was taken from her in an instant. >> forever we will feel the warmth of your smile, marcus, your heart felt embrace, the magic in your eyes and the gentleness of your soul. >> marcus was killed when he was hit by a sprint car driven by his cousin, chase, march 16th at the race way park. the 68-year-old race way sponsor was also killed. a fund was set up in his name. a portion will go to low income students to pay for school and athletic equipment. people are lining up at the supreme court in hopes of getting a seat to witness history. arguments to the right of same-sex marriage starts on tuesday. the first involves the constitutionality of proposition 8. it banned same-sex marriage

after the state's highest court ruled it was legal. california's attorney general opposes the ban. >> i am absolutely against same sex marriage because they are simply unconstitutional. >> the other case deals with the defensive marriage act. it defines marriage as between a man and a woman. rand paul says he believes in traditional marriage, but not dough -- do in a. >> i don't want the government promoting something i don't believe in, but i don't mind if they are neutral on the issue. >> there are about 250 general public seats for each case. the courts is expected to rule late in june. carolyn tyler will be in court when the nation's highest court will consider whether they will give the right to marry. >> the issue of boy scouts

late night bart riders will face delays because of work going on in the trans bay tube. crews will start work this tuesday night to make the tube safer in an earthquake. expect delays on trans bay trains every tuesday, wednesday and thursday nights for the next 14 months. one of the tubes will close during work hours. a story of survival from southern california. a 9-year-old girl hiked through rugged terrain to get help after a car wreck in the middle of the night. it happened after the girl's father drove off a road in acton. that's in the mountains northeast of los angeles. she climbed up a cliff to find help. when she couldn't find anyone to help, the girl went back to check on her dad. a good samaritan eventually spotted her walking along the highway. >> she walked quite a distance in a very, very threatening environment. it is very blackout here and very dark. it is very steep. it is brushy and there is also coyotes in the background. to someone who was raised in a

more urban environment as opposed to a rural setting that can be quite intimidating. >> the girl's father died from his injuries, but she escaped from the crash and her trek through the wilderness with a few cuts and bruises. a round of nasty weather forced the cancellation of a professional golf tournament in florida. look how dangerous conditions were with strong wind gusts and even blowing over the large media center. tense moments after it was evacuated. the storm put a damper on tiger woods' golf game. suspending play. woods only got in two holes before the thunderstorms delayed play until tomorrow. the tornado warning was issued, but there are no confirmed sight ings tonight. and for the weather here in the bay area, let's get to leigh glaser who is tracking what is ahead. >> right now live doppler 7hd and we are not picking up any returns at all, but we are starting to see an update there, we are seeing the high clouds continuing to move

showers possible for the latter part of the week. overnight temperatures because the clouds will be with us and it will help to insulate us a bit. it is not as cold in the north and east bay locations. temperatures hovering in the low 40s. midto upper 40s as you can see from richmond and oakland and all the way toward san francisco and half moon bay overnight 44 degrees. high pressure brought us a nice weekend. tomorrow it will start to retreat back to the south and east of us. what you can see here, the clouds ahead of the cold front will be in store for us on monday. the temperatures will come down a few degrees. then as we get into tuesday we are keeping a close eye on the area of low pressure. it looks impressive. as it moves closer to the coast it will split and bring us a sprinkle or two. here is a look at our forecast animation. throughout the course of monday we will see the clouds thicken up. this is tomorrow afternoon.

story you saw only on abc7 news. the sister and mother of murdered marine sara castro mata talked about their loss. the 19-year-old was killed last week in virginia by fellow marine lopez from pacifica. lopez killed another marine before taking his own life. a coast guard search for a 22-year-old missing man in half moon bay has been called off. javier lopez was playing soccer with a friend this afternoon when he disappeared into the rough surf off roosevelt beach. history will be made on tuesday in washington, d.c. people are already lining up to see it. the supreme court will hear arguments about same-sex marriage. one case involves the constitutionality of california's voter approved prop 8 which bans gay marriage. spring has sprung, at last according to the calendar. but this parts of the country, winter is digging in for a last stand. abc news reporter larry jacobs has a look at some of the areas hardest hit. >> it is the winter that won't go away. from colorado to kansas to

missouri. they are digging out from as much as 19 inches of snow. crews have been working nonstop to clear accidents and massive pile ups caused by poor visibility and dangerous road conditions. driving around kansas city, missouri was a challenge after the third major snowstorm hit there. the same system that brought snow to the midwest is making its way across the country. it spawned severe weather in the south and strong winds in atlanta and it blew 24 tree into an apartment building. fortunately the build is was unoccupied. >> it came tumbling down like the london bridge. >> look at this. fierce winds through a lowe's store in orlando, florida pushing carts like toys. the storm is forecast to take aim at the mid-atlantic from washington to new york city. larry jacobs, abc news, new york. >> the storm is also causing problems at airports across

two men are dead after an accident in florida. the co-owner of skydive city near tampa says they didn't deploy their main parachutes claiming the equipment was working properly even though an investigation continues. it was part of a group from ice land that -- iceland that makes the trip each year. the pair didn't return from their third jump. it was a close call for two divers in a shark cage often -- of on the coast of south africa. >> could you imagine? youtube video shows a great white shark bursting into the cage. it ignored the food left for bait and went for the pair inside. the sharks had actually gone

time. >> we were going to celebrate him coming back from afghanistan. >> she booked a carnival cruise to mexico for 11 family members. it is a chance for everyone to spend time with lee before he would ship out again. >> we like cruising. it is convenient. there is baby-sitting. >> everybody was ready to board the ship and then disaster. >> they couldn't find the reservation. they said they don't know what happened. >> all of the reservations were there except the room she booked for her in-laws. lee's parents could not get on board. >> what will we do? my in laws don't speak english and they don't drive. >> she couldn't leave them stranded in long beach, but there were no rooms available. so she did the only she could. >> i gave up my room to my in laws. >> linda and le expe their son watched -- and their son watched as the ship sailed away without them. the whole point of the cruise was left standing on shore. >> the trip was ruined.

nobody could enjoy themselves because the star of the show wasn't there. >> what was worse this their luggage couldn't be retrieved and sailed off with the ship. y. >> i had nothing but the clothes on my back. >> they waited seven days in los angeles waiting for the ship to return and blakeing the -- and making the most of their time at home. >> she later found out carnival had mistakenly canceled the reservation. it happened when carnival was correcting the spelling of her mother-in-law's middle name. linda paid for that room and she she wanted her money back. >> they said it was coming in the mail and i didn't get it. >> finally she contacted 7 on your side. and after we contacted carnival, linda did get her money back. $1,759 for the canceled cruise plus $253 for a night at a motel and a meal. she also received a discount on future travel.

5 to as much as 8 inches of snow, so prepare for flight delays along the eastern seaboard. here is a look at our highs for our state. los angeles tomorrow is a mixture of sun and clouds and 72 degrees. 80 in fresno and 58 in lake tahoe and 70 with increasing clouds for the sacramento area. now looking ahead out the next seven days you can see for yourself we will go to the coastal clouds on monday and the temps drop on tuesday. partly cloudy con -- conditions and maybe a sprinkle in the north bay. a chance of sprinkles on wednesday. mainly in the north bay. pretty much unsettled as we head to thursday and friday. the system may bring us a chance. it will be close to the bay area. that will give as you chance of an isolated shower at least the next two to three days. looks like next saturday and easter sunday may be the best day for a stronger system to move in. we really need. it we hope we get something.
